A few years ago I wrote of my experience with using bananas as an ingredient in a home-made body scrub.
It seems banana peels provide fabulous nutrition for the garden as well-
Obviously I now need to save the peel and gift it to my garden.
Bananas are full of goodness for the inside as well. The following are evidence based facts –
Need an energy boost? Grab a banana. They contain three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. Two gives enough energy for a strenuous 90 minute workout.
But wait – there’s more good news!
Feeling down? Eat a banana. It contains tryptophan which converts into serotonin, the feel good hormone.
Suffer from PMS? Eat a banana. It contain vitamin B6. Good to regulate the mood and blood glucose levels.
Have iron deficiency? Eat a banana. It stimulates the production of haemoglobin.
Have high blood pressure? Eat a banana. It’s high in potassium, low in salt.
About to go into exams? Eat a a banana. Helps you to stay alert and learn.
Constipated? Guess what? Bananas are high in fibre.
Got a hangover? Make a banana shake and add some honey. Calms the tummy, builds up depleted blood sugar levels. soothes and rehydrates.
Got heartburn? Eat a banana. It’s a natural antacid.
Morning sickness giving you problems? Eat a banana. Keeps the blood sugar levels up between meals.
Mozzy bit you? Grab a banana and rub the inside of the skin over it.
Got stomach ulcers? Eat a banana. Coats the stomach lining, neutralises the acid, reduces irritation.
Bananas have four times the protein of an apple, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and other vitamins and minerals, rich in potassium..
Oh – one last thing. Need to shine your shoes? Use the inside of a banana peel, then polish with dry cloth.
