BANANAS – So good in so many ways

A few years ago I wrote of my experience with using bananas as an ingredient in a home-made body scrub.

It seems banana peels provide fabulous nutrition for the garden as well-

Obviously I now need to save the peel and gift it to my garden.

Bananas are full of goodness for the inside as well. The following  are evidence based facts

Need an energy boost? Grab a banana. They contain three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. Two gives enough energy for a strenuous 90 minute workout.

But wait – there’s more good news!

Feeling down? Eat a banana.  It contains tryptophan which converts into serotonin, the feel good hormone.

Suffer from PMS? Eat a banana. It contain vitamin B6. Good to regulate the mood and blood glucose levels.

Have iron deficiency? Eat a banana.  It stimulates the production of haemoglobin.

Have high blood pressure? Eat a banana. It’s high in potassium, low in salt.

About to go into exams? Eat a a banana. Helps you to stay alert and learn.

Constipated? Guess what? Bananas are high in fibre.

Got a hangover? Make a banana shake and add some honey. Calms the tummy, builds up depleted blood sugar levels. soothes and rehydrates.

Got heartburn? Eat a banana. It’s a natural antacid.

Morning sickness giving you problems? Eat a banana. Keeps the blood sugar levels up between meals.

Mozzy bit you? Grab a banana and rub the inside of the skin over it.

Got stomach ulcers? Eat a banana. Coats the stomach lining, neutralises the acid, reduces irritation.

Bananas have four times the protein of an apple, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and other vitamins and minerals, rich in potassium..

Oh – one last thing. Need to shine your shoes? Use the inside of a banana peel, then polish with dry cloth.
