From the Man Cave – 2019

Son, the youngest, asked dad if he could make them a pallet wood coffee table.

Sure.

It was to be a hexagonal design top. With a black aluminium frame.

Sure.

As it turned out, the ‘sure’ proved to be more of a challenge than anticipated. The design of the top created some logistical conundrums. It required a few attempts to get it right in the middle.

I like to think of it like basket weaving, crisscrossing the strips of wood over and under. Except you can’t do that with wood. The middle bit won’t co-operate.

Of course, himself being the master craftsman he is, worked it all out. And threw in a bonus set of coasters.

We finally turfed the old lounge suite inherited from his parents when they moved interstate. They were in a sad state of disrepair.  We now have comfortable recliners we can snuggle into and fall asleep in while pretending to watch TV.

Some of the leather in the old set was still in good nick. So it has been repurposed to cover his worn office chair seat and armrests.

It now sports a trendy two-tone look.
