The man in the man cave has been very busy since we got back from our road trip. He – The Retired Husband – has been squirrelling away, collecting wooden palettes for some months now. And has found some awesome treasures. Enough to make all the furniture we need for our renovated guest bedroom and more.
To look at them you would never guess it was made from discarded palette timbers.
That pile on the left is just a small selection of what he has had in stock. All the palettes have been dismantled, nails removed, crappy bits cut off, then sanded and neatly stored ready for use.
Now that son #1’s car has been sent home to live with him in Darwin, the old car port has become an overflow and second man cave. His domain is spreading….
Not that I am complaining. No, no! Not at all. What he is producing is superb.
May I present you a preview of what has emerged
out of the man cave thus far –
Queen size double bed
Laminated and glued strips of wood.
They will be used to make bed side tables and a dressing table.
The dressing table was finished today. He has perfected the finishing oils over a long time.
It is the Sacred Secret Fin(n)ish known only to the privileged few.
My lips are sealed.
I just want to say that the fin(n)ish feels silky soft to the touch.
In preparation for the grand finale I have been doing my own bits of squirreling. Curtains, bed linens, cushions, paintings. All will be revealed in the not too distant future.

Wow!! Talented guy!!
Yep – but *sshhh* don’t tell him
He is very talented, I hope you will put up some of your paintings too 😊
Oh yes, Elaine. Just waiting for a feature wall to be painted. I’m hoping the room will be finished in a few weeks.
Wonderfu. He is a keeper .
Sure is. Besides, it’s far too late to change now 🙂
All that planed, sanded and oiled timber; it looks beautiful, but on top of that I’m sure it makes your home smell gorgeous.
Love timber! This guest bedroom will be our best reno yet !
Ha! The guest bedroom will be the best in the house, and you’ll only go in there to dust and clean 🙂
You’re probably right Jane 🙂 Or I might just sneak in on the odd occasion for a nap …
Remember to take your shoes off before you step on the hallowed ground 🙂
That could be dangerous!
