Yesterday we had the privilege of a private viewing at Palmerston Orchids. The proprietors, Denis and Sherryll Fett, kindly agreed to show us around their orchid nursery. Located in their backyard, there were orchids every which way you turned. Some were newly propagated, others were fully grown. One was over twenty years old. There were thousands of them. Denis apologetically explained that they had suffered quite a lot of damage in the last cyclone earlier this year and were still in the process of cleaning up. Not many were in flower. However, there was enough to provide us a feast for the eyes –

Beautiful Raili!!
Thjey are, Linda. Quite exquisite
Absolutely exquisite. It was very nice to have a private viewing as well.😊
It was a bonus. One of Eric’s friends.
Such miracles of beauty…
I cannot believe those multi-dotted patterns on the petals. Nature is truly amazing. Beyond genius.
Denis was so apologetic he could not show us more. But what we saw was gorgeous also 🙂
Quite satisfying are those orchids called Phalaenopsis, which I happen to grow abundantly and write about at https://queenslandorchid.wordpress.com/2017/06/20/phalaenopsis-novices-orchid-mothers-day-gift-and-woodlandgnomes-house-plant/
Each of the flowers can last for three months, sometimes even longer!
You have some very nice ones here, Raili! Happy August!
Awesome! Thanks 🙂
So when you see the bright blue ones for sale at the store, are they authentic or artificially colored like they do with some carnations?
Interesting question ! I would think they are coloured, and a quick google seems to confirm that
