What if you could, she echoed invitingly …
In my wild erratic fancy
Echoed taunting and teasing
and an answer came directed in a writing unexpected…
life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know
Clancy’s gone a-droving and she –
she has gone a-droving in the vastness of the scapes
within her mind
Life has pleasure beyond measure as she flitter flutters
chasing portals here and there and everywhere
And he sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended,
And at night the wond’rous glory of the everlasting stars…
and she sees the splendour, the wond’rous glory
that vision droving brings –

(This post was inspired by Calen’s What if Wednesday and Banjo Patterson’s classic Australian poem, Clancy of the Overflow. Links to both can be found within the beginnings of this post.)
I love that song… Just imagine. John was a visionary, wasn’t he?
He was. This one is a beautiful version 🙂
Wonderful words so well composed, Raili and so mysterious. The picture too was apt.
Thank you 🙂
Welcome
Love Pentatonic but can’t stand ‘Imagine? (a world of mindless zombies if taken to its logical conclusion, though maybe on reflection that would be better than this crazy human race …) However, I followed your link to Clancy of the Overflow and that really got me. Never heard of it before, don’t know why. Thank you!
I’m glad you enjoyed half of it 🙂
Most of it xx
I love Pentatonix, Raili, and haven’t seen their version of this song before. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve never read this poem before. It’s awesome! I copied and pasted it into my notebook.
Banjo Patterson is a revered Aussie poet. Glad you enjoyed it.
I’m going to take a look at some more of his poetry 🙂
I think you’ll enjoy it. I think one of our Aussie actors, Jack Thompson recites some of Banjo’s work. He has the perfect voice for it. Not sure if it’s on Youtube, but would be worth having a look.
Thanks for the info. I’ll take a look tomorrow.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s27QP0QGv0 – found it !
Thanks – I’ll copy and paste it into my notebook (it’s my latest toy). 🙂
I’ve not got one of those toys. I’m such an IT neanderthal 🙂
It was one of the twiddly bits that came with my new laptop. I said “Oh, for goodness sake, why would I want that?”
Then I tried it out. I love it.
Maybe when my dinosaur laptop goes to IT heaven, I will get one of those too and learn to love it 🙂
It’s so simple – just copy and paste, drag, or type…
My kind of IT 🙂
You might enjoy this one too. He’s reading another Aussie poet’s work 0 Henry Lawson.
OK, thanks. I’ll paste that URL in as well.
Have a good day – or night – whatever it is there. I gotta go get ready to go out 🙂 Nice chatting ‘live’ for a change !
Enjoy – it’s almost 1.30am here, and I should be in bed xx
Sweet dreams 🙂 Here it is now 1030am
