I posted this poem almost twelve months ago.
It’s time to share it again.
I may be
Black or white or yellow
Or any shades between
Do not label me
*
I may be
Hetero or metro or gay
Or any shades between
Do not label me
I may be
young or old or adult
or any shades between
Do not label me
*
I may be
Muslim or Christian or Agnostic
or any shades between
Do not label me
I may be
many shades of differentness
Underneath that label
whatever it may be
I am just like you
and you and you
*
Labels tend to
stick and stay
And leave a sticky mess
so
hard
to remove
So best
not to
label me at all
Just call me
by
my
name
*
and add an
adjective or two
if there be a need
to describe
something
more
that
paints a picture
of my
essence

Nusrath Sariffo’deen’s blog, The Diary of a Muslim Girl, posted a link to an anti-terrorism ad today. It includes actual victims of terror attacks. I thought it was a good time to share this powerful message –
Wonderful poem! And, dare I say it, very apt for our times. I despair at the way we, as a society, seek to pigeonhole people. Thank you for sharing this again! ❤
Thank you -given the current climate I wanted to have my say again!
And quite right too! We have to keep saying how we feel. We can’t just say it once and then keep quiet.
🙂
Absolutely a 10. I rebel against labels.
Thanks Jacquie 🙂

Thank you !
I agree. Rate a person by their deeds. Listen to them and try to be friends. Don’t seek separation. Seek common goals and dreams.
Yes, yes, yes !!!
