Of Colours and Flowers

CANVA POSTER OF ROSESAs you may know, I just love flowers.

The look, the smell, the feel, even the taste of them.

There are so many spectacular ones.

I would have to say though that I do have some very definite favourites. Like roses. They smell exquisite. Everyone knows of course that roses are all about love. Especially the red ones. But did you know that they can also be about healing and courage?   I have several garden beds just for roses. Last count is 24 rose bushes. They’re so beautiful. Here’s a picture of one of my favourite roses. Isn’t she gorgeous !

Lilies are another flower that is all about passion, love, long relationships and looking after each other. It sort of makes sense why they are  used   a lot in weddings. They grow from bulbs and come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colours in spring.   The really cool thing about lilies is that they make more bulbs so every year you get more of them.  Here’s a picture of one of my favourites. It’s blue which is so calming and peaceful. I have a lot of bluebells in my quiet corner to bring in harmony.

Pansies, violas and violets are favourites of the faeries.  They are all about remembering special friends and family. Most of them are violet in colour. That’s  about being unique, special, part of a perfect whole, and it’s the colour of royalty and nobility.

This site has an A-Z list of flowers and their meanings. My middle name is Iiris (=Iris in English). It’s listed meaning is Fleur-de-lis, Emblem of France, Your Friendship Means so Much to Me, Faith, Hope, Wisdom and Valor, My Compliments.

Just to  finish off here’s a few things about the meaning of colours :

Orange is about growth, warmth, expansion, friendship, community. It’s the colour of the sun and happiness.

Yellow is about  purity, truth, intelligence, reason. Apparently its good to have around when you study.

Green is a very soothing colour. It’s about renewal, growth, hope, health, youth. It’s the colour of the grass and trees. Some time back I wrote a whole long post on green therapy.

And white of course is about innocence, purity, angels.

Did you know that other things have meanings too? Like dreams and stuff. That’s a whole other story by itself! If you dream about houses it could actually be about your body! I wonder what gardens are about? Or hair, clothes, shoes …. maybe feelings?

  1. I have a “new” red rose growing up my trellis. I say it’s new because I don’t remember planting it. But it is there and it is beautiful. Years ago a different rose grew on the trellis, but it died. I thought it was growing back so I nurtured it along. But this a different rose altogether!

  2. Love these flower pics! And yes, I’m sure the fairies certainly had a hand in them. 🙂 Thanks for posting a bit about the meanings! I always loved flowers but never really knew certain meanings.

  3. Fascinating. I love rises because my daddy grew them. But I was allergic to them when too close to their smell or petals. I found out I was allergic when I tried a teen magazine suggestion to put rose petals in your bra. Your perspiration would augment the smell. I did it and started itching and broke out in hives. Lol. They are gorgeous though.
