Finding the Other Heart – a meditation


Why is it that there is such a lot of talk nowadays about the heart?

I don’t mean the physical heart. That’s a different subject matter altogether. I’m talking about the OTHER heart.  What heart is that you ask? The heart chakra? The Soul?  Something else entirely – but what?

Whatever you choose to think it is, the consensus out there is that there is another heart thing, however intangible that other heart thing happens to be. Perhaps it’s the seat of our emotions. Our personality. Our Self. That Self which is non-judgemental and  unconditionally loving. Also fragile and easily broken.

Our language is full of talk about heart stuff –

  • Where’s the heart in that
  • What a heartless thing to do
  • That was so heart-warming
  • Be heart-centred
  • Leaders should show some heart
  • They are all heart

The movie, music and story industries revolve around  heart stuff. Without it, they’d be broke. Romance. Broken hearts. Falling in and out of love. Unrequited love. Selfless love. Selfish love. Ruthless love. Even Fifty Shades of Grey in the end is about love. Yes, I have read it. I was intrigued enough to want to find out just what drove the behaviour of Christian Grey. And I had to read to the end of the third book to find out. Really! I was so over the repetitious nature of the story by then. Just saying …..

Regardless of what your personal beliefs may be, the celebration of Love has got to be a good thing. We do it on Valentine’s Day – that’s become almost as commercialised as Christmas and Easter. We do it at the birth of babies – whether they be human or not. We certainly do it at engagements. And as for weddings – if that’s not about love then what is! We do it for birthdays. We even do it at  funerals.

But for now, I want to focus on loving you. What are you doing to show yourself that you love You just for who you are, warts and all? How well are you looking after your Other Heart? It’s important to do that. And no, it is not selfish or vain. Quite the opposite. It all starts with you. From there it flows on naturally  to others.

One way of nurturing your Other Heart is through meditation. Geranium is a good essential oil for the Other Heart. It’s beautiful warm fragrance softens and relaxes as it supports a deeper connection to the Other Heart.

Why not try a meditation now?


Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed.  A sacred space where you feel calm and peaceful. You may wish to light a candle. Perhaps use some incense.

(If you are using an essential oil to enhance and support this meditation, I would suggest you use it now. Drop one or two drops into the palm of your hand, activate the oil by rubbing your hands together in a circle clockwise three times, then hold your hands over your nose and breathe deeply three times. Sit or lie in a comfortable position. Spine straight, arms and legs uncrossed. Intent to breathe through the heart. Take a few deep breaths. In through the nose. Out through the mouth. Slowly deepen and lengthen your breath. Allow your body to soften and relax. Now, let your body breathe for you. It knows exactly what to do.

From your heart connect to that which for you is the Source of all Unconditional Love. Also from the heart ground yourself solidly to the core of the Earth with strong roots.

Imagine that you have shape shifted into a ‘mini me’. You are inside your own body, standing in front of your Other Heart. It’s located in the centre of the chest, close to where your physical heart lies.

You enter the Other Heart through a small door. It opens softly and easily. You step inside. Looking around, you notice that a softly glowing, pulsating pink light beckons you to go deeper within. Once there you find a comfortable, cosy chair that is waiting just for you to sit in it. Settling down you find yourself embraced in its soft, all-encompassing warmth. A deep sense of peace and calm settles over you. Cocooned in this space, you breathe deeply, allowing the sensations to flow into every cell of your Being – mind, body and soul.  Bathing yourself as if in a shower, flow the energies in and around  your Self until you are fully saturated and over-flowing. Do this for as long as you intuitively feel is right for you.

Next, ask your Self what colour/s your Heart most desires at this time in your life. You will receive the information in whatever way is right for you – as an inner knowing, seeing the colour, hearing the word/s…. Once you have received the information add the colour/s into your breath with intent that it become part of your breath for the next 24 hours and that it cleanses all negativity, transmuting it to Light. Thus the vibrational energy of your breath will support and nurture your wellbeing.

Open your Heart to breathe in the attributes and qualities that are a quintessential part of it. Do this slowly, with intent, breathing in each one until your Heart is filled. For each step give yourself as much time as you intuitively feel is right for you. Joy. Peace. Compassion. Serenity. Unconditional Love. Courage. Tranquillity. Allow these energies to settle and embed into your Heart.

Next expand your Heart so it embraces your physical heart. As before, take as long as you intuitively feel is right for each step of this process. Expand it slowly step by step until your Heart fully embraces your whole body. Expand it to embrace your Mind. Expand it to embrace your Soul.

In front of you is another mini me. Through your expanded Heart’s Soul Eyes gaze deeply into the eyes of the other mini me. Reach out and hold hands with Your Self. With your expanded Heart smile at the other mini me.  Greet yourself by name. With your expanded Heart open wide say “I love you!” to your Self. Add your name.  Say it again. And again. Keep on saying it until you know for certain that you really, truly believe it. Then invite the other mini me to merge with you  – until you become One.

Stay in this space for as long as you feel  is right. When you are ready to leave, give thanks for the time and experience. Know that you can return there any time you wish.

Slowly and gently bring your attention back to your physical body. Feel the surface on which you are resting. Feel the weight of your body. Your limbs. Hear the sounds of the space in which you rest. Return back to the here and now, opening your eyes and wriggling your fingers and toes. Welcome back!

  1. Thank You for sharing this. Powerful meditation even while reading I could feel as if I’m meditating. I surely will do it on regular basis starting from today. Can we sit on chair while meditating?

  2. That’s a beautiful meditation. I’ll have to try it after the kids have gone. Got anything to clear up a severe ear infection (Caleb), a bad cough (Lydia), strep (Ethan — just found that one out today after a second visit to urgent care), and a fever and sore throat for me. Guess what I think I’ve got… This has NOT turned out to be the best visit…

    1. Oh dear. Garlic is a great natural antibiotic. Taken internally and topically. Steep 8- 10 cloves in a couple of tbsp olive oil, gently heating to simmering point. Allow to cool. sieve.Massage into he soles of the feet.It gets absorbed easily from there and finds its way around to where it needs to go. Safe to use with kids too. High doses Vit C good too – our body uses more when we’re fighting off infections. Somewhere I have a recipe for a natural cough syrup too. Will see if I can find it. Hope everyone gets better soon. I’m ALMOST back to normal 🙂 Been 4 long weeks.

      1. Thanks for the info. Especially the cough med you sent. I’m going to do some of that up today. Brandon woke up with a sore throat this morning, so I guess there’s no pretending we haven’t caught something from them. They gave Ethan a SHOT of antibiotics at the Urgent Care yesterday. That surprised me. I didn’t think they did that any more. But I guess they felt like since he’d been sick with it since around about the 4th he just needed something to help get him over the hump. Stef called this morning to say he was feeling much better.

      1. you’re such a multifacetted, smart cookie but you’re deeply spiritual as well as I gleaned upon ‘meeting’ you many moons ago. It is obvious even from as many miles away as we are.

      2. I didn’t tell you but when younger, I wanted to immigrate to Australia with my best friend SO badly. We used to watch Sons & Daughters and Flying Doctors, and all sorts of Australian shows, we were Australian mad, and found the ONE shop that sold Vegemite and we’d even practice our accents. My dad met Rhonnie who was from Australia when I was around 11 they married and stayed married 3 years, I was close to her until I was around 17 then a few years later she moved back to Australia after a 20 year absence. She lives in Sydney. My best friend who watched Aussie soaps with, moved to Australia in the late nineties having met an Australian in the UK and married him. She lives in Adelaide. I was meant to go visit my step mom in 96 but I got to NZ first and my then boyfriend didn’t want to go to Australia and being very young and dumb I decided to follow his lead (tragic mistake all girls liable to make) and we ended up doing NZ mostly and then going back via Bali and other places so I NEVER go to Australia! Much to my regret and loss. Anyway my next step-mom’s best friend and her family moved to Australia in the eighties and I know them well too and they live in Melbourne, they come over and stay with my dad (free hotel) every year and visit family. I used to be obsessed with all Australian TV Media and films. I felt they were such a high quality. I can do a better Australian accent than I can American (by a LONG shot) I really love the idea of Australia. I did hear however, that if you have an English accent (which I have because I was taught English by an English person and I lived in England when I was at school and once you get it, it’s hard to speak another way) then Australians hate you because of the history of the British and Australians. Is that true? If not for that I thought of immigrating years ago. I got as far as going to Australia house when I was in the UK but at the time the ‘bar’ was very high and I didn’t have enough work-experience hours only educational. Later on I immigrated to Canada and I had enough hours by then both in education and work history to qualify for skilled worker immigration, so I guess in theory I could have immigrated to Australia but by then they had reduced how many people they were letting in because they had got too many. Karma? I don’t know. I always thought I would like living there. Temperature wise it’s got better climates and varied climates than where I currently live. That said, there are reasons for everything. I think I will visit one day though, I hope I can meet you and your family when I do. xo Well that’s just my little story.

      3. My, that’s a lot of links with Australia!! I don’t know that there is so much Pommie hatred here. SOme come over and all they do is whine and go back home because they weren’t happy with some minor thing over here. ANd it hits the media. Not come across any for a long time now. One of my sister-in-laws is English. We imported a lot of English nurses too at one stage due to the shortage here. And England of course hit back and imported AUssie nurses over there to make up their shortfall!! Go figure. The climate here has all sorts. Adelaide of course is in the driest state. Our climate is relatively mild although summers can get very hot – we have bursts of 40+ but never for very long in one stretch. It would be lovely to have you visit one day 🙂
