Hey! It’s been a while. How are ya! she yelled out as she charged in the door, throwing her handbag down in the corner. Come here then, she said, holding her arms out wide for a hug. I wasn’t so sure about any of this. I hadn’t seen her for years. And here she was now, large as life, in my living room. As if we’d only seen each other just yesterday. And she was right. It might as well have been. We hugged. We laughed. We cried. We shared our stories as if no space or time had ever separated us. It was good.
Have you ever experienced a friendship like this ? One that picks up where it left off as if nothing had happened in between. They’re the special ones. Friends come in all shades of grey. Far more than 5o of them I’m sure. And they’re not just the two legged variety either. They’re old, young, in between, black, white, single, married, different in one way or another to whatever society deems to be ‘normal’. Some come into our lives for a while then leave. Others come in to stay. Yet others pop in and out. Some we see regularly. Some we never meet. Yet they find a special niche in our hearts. All enrich our lives. Unexpectedy, I’ve discovered a whole new dimension of friendship right there on the blogosphere.
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about friends and friendships. I’m curious to know what you think and feel about it. So I decided to nominate May as The Circle of Friends month here on this blog. It’s an open invitation for everyone to join in and share thoughts, experiences, ideas, revelations, stories. poems – whatever for you represents friends and friendships. Each Monday of May, I’ll post suggestions, prompts and topics. Take part in whatever way you like through the week – add your thoughts to comments, post on your own blog with a link to Circle of Friends, comment on Facebook or email me. At the end of each week I will pull it all together and publish it here. So get your creative juices flowing in readiness. I’m looking forward to it!
