For decades I have been an enthusiastic experimenter in the use of natural, wholesome ingredients for skin and hair care. This means I have collected lots of information from lots of different places. And I have lathered myself in some very strange concoctions over the years ……
One of the most memorable occasions was during a weekend get-away with “The Other Half’’. I had decided to take the opportunity for some serious pampering. Go all out – do the works ! My luggage contained all the essentials. On day one I made an all-over body scrub of mashed very ripe bananas, avocado, olive oil and dried, powdered avocado seed. The scrub looked—well, BROWN.
I climbed the stairs with all my equipment in tow and disappeared into the bathroom. Himself was absorbed in a book and glass of wine oblivious to my activities. I stood in the bath tub with blobs of gloop liberally plastered on all the areas I could reach. As well as on the wall and the bath… I might just add that by this time I had also applied a similar coloured face mask. And warm olive oil to my hair which was covered in a shower cap and hot towel.
It was at this point that I decided I needed some help to apply the gloop to places I could not reach. So I called for my Dearly Beloved. Who dutifully came, took one look at me and ran out of the bathroom screaming. On being reassured that it was indeed me, his Better Half, in the tub and not some gruesome swamp monster, he very tentatively came back in. Pointing at the blobs of brown gloop he asked in a whisper tinged with fear what on earth had happened AND what WAS that ‘STUFF!’ and just WHAT did I want.
I very calmly and matter-of-factly explained what I was doing, what it was, and what I wanted. The gloop was dutifully applied—in about 3 seconds flat —and he beat a very hasty retreat, muttering something unintelligible under his breath. Needless to say this pampering session left my hair silky soft, my face glowing and my body like soft velvet.
Of course. Need I say more !!
